New e-publishing tool enables traditional book publishers to create and manage digital content
For many traditional book publishers the ability to publish e-content or digital courseware has been seen as an expensive or technically prohibitive option. But now an innovative new publishing tool will help these publishers capitalise on the opportunities of the digital age.
yPublisher Suite has been developed specifically to enable publishers with no digital experience to create and publish their own bespoke digital content.
The most pioneering and advanced set of tools available today, yPublisher Suite makes the publishing process simple, dynamic and flexible. For the first time, publishers with no in-house digital resource can confidently manage the end-to-end process themselves. From creating wholly digital courses to individual learning units – for full access on the web or stored on CD – the publisher can eliminate the need for outsourcing or employing web developers and IT experts.
The suite is great news for publishers who traditionally rely on printing their content. Digital courseware overcomes many of the limitations of printed matter, such as time to market, interactivity, cost of printing and global accessibility.
With yPublisher Suite publishers can now take existing or new content and create highly visual and user-friendly digital courseware for use on a website, an LMS (learning management system) or on CD. It is literally publishing on demand.
Typical content could include educational courses, reference materials, examinations or publications, packed with interactivity, feedback mechanisms, and popular media formats such as MP3, Jpeg and Flash movie files and much more. While suited particularly to the educational publisher, the tool is also ideal for fiction publishers who are looking to publish works in digital form.
Young Digital Planet is the innovative developer behind the yPublisher Suite. The company is one of the world’s leading developers of educational software and e-learning technology. Young Digital Planet has traditionally offers its services in e-publishing to many of publishing houses, creating e-content for them. Now the new yPublisher Suite. technology hands this role back to the publisher.
yPublisher Suite sweeps away the complexities, demands and financial overheads of traditional e-publishing solutions. It will ensure that a publisher’s production workflow consistently yields high-quality, standardised and interactive content – while giving them complete control over cost, time and content.
How the yPublisher Suite works
yPublisher Suite offers a vast range of features, tools and flexibility, combining an online management and offline authoring tools.
The yPublisher Portal element is a complete e-Content publishing management solution that allows the publisher to manage and preview work during the publishing process. It includes the tools to help publishers manage the entire project and people from start to completion, eliminating the requirement for several software packages, the problems of compatibility and integration, and the need for outsourcing other companies to develop the digital courses for them.
The yPublisher Editor is the offline element that enables designers and editors to create professional quality content – learning materials, courseware, e-learning courses, interactive tests, reference materials, flipbooks and more. They can design and modify content including text and visuals, and view it in real time since it is committed to the yPublisher Portal.
There are dedicated work processes for both the graphic designer and the editor, which enables them to work simultaneously or have their work assessed in the yPublisher Portal at any time without conflict.
yPublisher Editor can be downloaded through the yPublisher portal. Members of the publishing team can work on the platform collaboratively, wherever they are in the world, using an in-built control system: SVN. This ensures the project is free from mistakes and accidental file modification or deletion. With ease they can turn PDFs into dynamic Flash movie files, and create content using the yPublisher Player that can be viewed on PC, Mac, PDAs and compatible mobile devices. The work created can be located for use within the publisher’s LMS or on CD, to the publisher’s preference.
Young Digital Planet provides onsite analysis to meet each customer’s requirements, advises on the hardware required, assists with testing and start-up and provides full training and product familiarisation to get publishers off to the best possible start. The product licence is designed to be affordable and dependent on the number of users, with email and phone support. The company can also provide tailored extensions and enhancements to meet a customer’s individual requirements.
The yPublisher Suite follows a range of innovative authoring tools and dedicated applications created by Young Digital Planet. To find out more about yPublisher visit www.ypublisher.eu.
